A Lesson I Learned in Life

Image
O ne of the Chinese sayings goes ” A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit.” The best education people can obtain is always through learning from their mistakes. For me, the lesson I learned in my life is never to be too complacent with myself. When I first moved to Canada, I thought I would adapt into this new environment very quickly, so I hardly studied after school and just spent all the time playing with my little sister. The first year passed and my teacher told me that I could not go to regular courses because my English was not even improving. At that moment, I started to realize that I should work harder in my spare time instead of being overconfident and wasting my time all day. From then on, I began to read one English novel after another to improve my vocabulary, while I would never read these books in the past. After a year’s effort, I was told that I was able to join regular courses because teachers saw my great progress and my good attitude at learning English.

Favourite Book of All Time

M y favorite book is ‘5 Centimeters Per Second”, a short novel written by a famous Japanese author. The title of the book is unique, the 5 centimeters per second is the speed for a cherry blossom to fall from the tree. The book is simple and short. It tells us a love story between a young girl and a young boy who are good friends in their elementary school and believe they will stay together forever. However, the girl’s father changes his job and decides to move his family to another city. After the separation, the boy always recalls their past and even rejects the love from other girls. Ten years later, he meets the girl again, but they just passed each other without saying a word. At the end of the novel, the author leaves the question that if the speed for a cherry blossom to touch the ground is 5 seconds, how long will the ones in love cling to each other. I like this short story because I am a big fan of Japanese culture. This book is well written and tells us the central

Personal Goals

Image
Everyone has his or her personal goals and I am no exception. For me, I have three personal goals to achieve this year. The first goal for me is to finish English 12 on time. English seems to be one of the biggest challenges for me in this year. In order to achieve a high mark, I ha ve been working really hard recently and I hope I can finish everything before Christmas.   The second personal goal for me is to earn 6000 CAD from my workplace. In my spare time, I like playing games with my friends. So I need to earn the sufficient money to buy my favorite games and play with my friends. The other reason I want to earn this amount of money is that I want to use them for University. To achieve this goal, I need to work much harder in my work place and try to save up from my daily expenditure. The last goal for me is to go to my dream university. It is a top priority for a Chinese student to go to a preeminent university after completing high school every student should mak

Thoughts on the Canucks Riot in June of 2011

Image
W hen I first moved to Canada, I have heard that Canadians enjoy playing hockey. Hockey, admittedly, is a very good sport where each team member learns to cooperate with his or her teammates.  However, the Canucks Riot   in June of 2011 made this sport more violent. On the night of June 15, 2011, the fact that Boston Bruins' won over the Vancouver Canucks i n the seventh Game of the Stanley Cup Finals  triggered the riot. When the match ended, a large number of radical fans became very angry, as their favorite team had just lost the game. At that moment, a few people in the crowded shouted, “Let's riot, let's riot". When riot started, a car was flipped and burned by the rioters at first, and then they continued their criminal behaviors by robbing some shopping malls and smashing store windows. The Police of Vancouver estimated that the total property damage is as much as $5 million CAD, and eventually more than 80 people were arrested. Though I am not a big fa

Trump's America

Image
W ith the majority of the states turning red, Donald J Trump will be the next president of the USA. While I am living in Canada, I still look up the result of the US election. The US is our neighbor and partner.  Every year Canada sells a lot of goods to the US, and vice versa. As an individual, I think Donald Trump's idea to rebuild America to be a great nation is good. However, his words to ladies and minorities are not just disrespectful but also offensive. Trump is the chairman of the Trump real-estate corp., and he knows a lot about the pros and cons of slandering in the society. His ideology is to cut down the tax for big corps and make them to stay in the United States, which could be a good idea for the US economy. Right now US citizens are facing a soaring unemployment rate. To address this situation, Trump's idea will make more big corporations to create more job opportunities. Trump also says he is going to rebuild some bad infrastructures in US, which I thi
