Favourite Book of All Time

My favorite book is ‘5 Centimeters Per Second”, a short novel written by a famous Japanese author. The title of the book is unique, the 5 centimeters per second is the speed for a cherry blossom to fall from the tree. The book is simple and short. It tells us a love story between a young girl and a young boy who are good friends in their elementary school and believe they will stay together forever. However, the girl’s father changes his job and decides to move his family to another city. After the separation, the boy always recalls their past and even rejects the love from other girls. Ten years later, he meets the girl again, but they just passed each other without saying a word.

At the end of the novel, the author leaves the question that if the speed for a cherry blossom to touch the ground is 5 seconds, how long

will the ones in love cling to each other. I like this short story because I am a big fan of Japanese culture. This book is well written and tells us the central theme which is we need to seek for new opportunities instead of indulging in the past. The story was also adapted into a movie with the same name. So if you are interested in the book but are too busy to attend to it, the movie will also be a good choice.
